Maldives Geographical Overview

Maldives Geographical Location

The Maldives, officially the Republic of Maldives, are a South Asian country and is situated in the Indian ocean. Maldives territory spans roughly around 298 square kilometres (115 sq mi), which makes the Maldives the smallest Asian country by land area. It is also the smallest Asian country by population, with around 427,756 inhabitants. The Maldives consists of approximately 1,190 coral islands grouped in a double chain of 26 atolls, spreading over roughly 90,000 square kilometres, which makes this one of the most disparate countries in the world. Most atolls of the Maldives consist of a large, ring-shaped coral reef supporting a large number of small islands.

Islands are small, averaging only one to two square kilometres in area, and lie between 1–1.5 m (3 ft 3 in–4 ft 11 in) above mean sea level. The islands are too small to have rivers, but small lakes and marshes can be found in some of the islands. The climate in the Maldives is mostly good with temperature ranging between 24 and 33 °C (75.2 and 91.4 °F) throughout the year. Although the humidity is relatively high. However, the constant sea breezes help to keep the air moving. Malé is the capital of Maldives. It is a populated city, traditionally called the “King’s Island” because of its central location.

Funny things to do in Maldives

Whether it’s your honeymoon, family trip or adventure with your friends, Maldives will never let you down. He promises to provide life experience and more than promises. Here is a list of some fantastic things to do in the Maldives.

1. Snorkeling

One of the greatest attractions of Maldives is the beautiful sea and the extraordinary diversity when it comes to marine life. Due to the wonderful flora and fauna, the Maldives is one of the most amazing diving spots. Maldives is a group of islands in the south of India in the Indian Ocean, which offers a great place for diving. Reefs in the Maldivian waters are primarily hard corals, a mixture of table corals, fingers, deer, boulders, lobes and brains.

You can also look at the amazing diversity of fish and other aquatic creatures such as anemonefish, colourful giant mussels, black and white fin reef sharks, tortoiseshell turtles, whale sharks, eagle rays, massive schools of ingenious fusiliers, clawed fishes, bannerfish butterflies and various types of octopuses. If you’re ever planning a snorkelling trip to the Maldives, March is the best month to travel.

2. Playing the tube

Vacation is the best time to get out of your comfort zone and try your hand at crazy and happening around the world. Funny tubes are one of the craziest things in the Maldives. Do you like to achieve high speeds (like a little more than average speed) and adventure? Next. Funny tubes are for you. Tubes are like a roller coaster ride in the beautiful and natural water parks of Maldives.

It is a non-inflated, inflatable tube that tows you on the water at high speeds, flowing on the waves. Tubing gives you a fun and bumpy adventure that you can also enjoy with children. Shaken by Huh!

3. Parasailing

Looking for an exciting experience, paragliding is a must. Racing in the air and feel the sea wind on the face, bird’s eye view of the sea, an exciting experience. Here the person who wears the open parachute is towed by a motorboat soaring in the air at incredible speed.

4. Water skiing

Water-skiing is one of the easiest and most enjoyable water sports in the Maldives. Water-skiing takes place in two ways in one way, when a person is towed by a boat, and in the second case, a cable car is installed on oceanic skiing. It is a safe sport and you can find many lifeguards on the coast during your time of need.

Water skiing is not a good solution in the months from June to September, because it is a rainy season that makes skiing difficult in the wind, rain and rough ocean currents.

Transport in the Maldives

Most of the Islands in Maldives are close to each other and hence once people reach any island, the best way they have found to explore the city and enjoy the beauty is by walking. But you need to reach your Hotel first! There are many options available for that both pocket-friendly and luxurious enough to take your breath away.

Once you arrive at Velana International Airport (MLE) on the island of Hulhule’, you’ll most likely be escorted by a representative from your resort to the island where you are staying. You will have to take a ferry, a seaplane, a speedboat or some combination of the three to reach your destination.

How to reach Your hotel in Maldives?

When you will land at Maldives port, you can easily get a cab that will help you reach out at the resort in Ellaidhoo that is located on the beach, 7.1 km from the Fish Head dive site and 12 km from the Harbor Green Zone and Great Banyan Tree. The Ibrahim Kalaafaan Mosque and I Sanctuary is 18.7 km from the property.
