Darjeeling

Darjeeling is a picturesque town in the Indian state of West Bengal. The majestic Kangchenjunga towers over this beautiful town, which is the third highest mountain in the world. Another Name for Darjeeling, ‘ Queen of the Hills’ , Darjeeling provided stunning locations for many Bollywood movies including Barfi, Main Hoon Na and Aradhana. It is the Area developed by the British, the colonial era architecture can still be seen everywhere in Darjeeling. Tiger Hill offers a spectacular view of both Mount Everest and Mount Kangchenjunga. Here, Lloyd’ s Botanical Garden has a collection of several species of flora including oak, magnolia and bamboo. Go on an adventurous trek up to Sandakphu in Singalila Range, the highest peak in West Bengal and feast your eyes on the natural panorama.

Gangtok

The city of Gangtok rises as a center for Tibetology and Tibetan Buddhist culture. It is the capital of Sikkim in India and a popular destination for globetrotters. With its stunning views of Mount Kanchenjunga, third highest peak in the world, gained prominence after the construction of Enchey Monastery. Today, Gangtok is home to many monasteries and educational institutions. The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Himalayan Zoological Park, Ganesh Tok, Enchey Gompa and White Memorial Hall, are few of the attractions in Gangtok. Other Attractions in Gangtok are like Tsomgo Lake, Yumthang Valley, Nathu La Pass, Pelling and more.

Kalimpong

Nestled on a ridge, an altitude of 1,250 metres above the meeting point of the Teesta and the Great Rangeet Rivers, the small but bustling beautiful trading town of Kalimpong has excellent views of the Kanchenjunga Himalyan Ranges. Major Attractions are : Kanchenjunga Views ,Dr Graham’s Home,Deolo View Point,Zong Dog Pairi Fo-Brang Gompa,Tharpa Choling Gompa,Thongsa Gompa,Locally made cheese,White water rafting (Teesta River),Samco Ropeway,Wednesday/Saturday markets,Villages of Lava & Kaffer.

Pelling

The natural small town of Pelling is famous for magnificent views of the snow-capped Kanchenjunga range, third highest peak in the world. Pelling is 130 km away from Siliguri and 115km from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, and is well connected by bus and jeep services. The Placid town pulls most of the visitors for its nature and culture of the state of Sikkim.
Situated at an altitude of 6,800 ft, Pelling offers panoramic view of the entire Kanchenjunga mountain range including Koktang, Kumbhakaran (Jannu), Rathong, Kabru, Kabru Dome, Kanchenjunga, Pandim, Siniolchu and others. This is as close as you can get to the Kanchenjunga range without leaving the material comfort of good hotels.

Lachen

Lachen is one of the most beautiful towns of Sikkim and is an attractive tourist spot, well known for its Lachung monastery. It is one of the most popular places for Buddhist pilgrims and tourists. Lachen is a less-populated beautiful holiday destination, also famous as the gateway to the sacred Guru Dongmar and Tso Lhamu lakes.Lachen is a quiet town which is the home to Bhutia tribes and Tibetans .

Lachen, is a lovely hill station near the Indo-Tibetan Border, on the North Sikkim Highway. The most prevailing area in Lachen is the Nyingma order of Himalayan Buddhism and the Lachen Monastery, positioned atop the village providing a great sight of the village, Lachen Chu and the alpine covers. Lachen is known for its lush vegetation along with apple orchards that are the major tourist attraction here. It is the base station for many trekking areas in the North Sikkim region including the famous Green Lake and Kunchenjunga National Park treks. Lachen provides attractions like Chopta Valley, Green Lake, Cho-lamu, Guru Dongmar Lake and Singhba Rhododendron Sanctuary.

Lachung

Lachung (8600 ft asl) is a small riverside village,offers snow peak views, cool weather even in peak summer.

From Lachung popular excursions are to Yumthang valley, a big plateau surrounded by beautiful snowpeaks.

One can get snow in Lachung till March/April and in the month of May one can see wild flowers / Rhododendrons.

Traveling upto yumesamdong from Lachung where one can get snow even in summer. Lachung is typically visited with Lachen as a part of meal and transport inclusive package ex-Gangatok.

Mirik

It is very prominent place in Mirik, The Sumendu Lake is beautiful and calm with natural beauty. The lake also has an 80 foot bridge running over it for people who don’t wish to walk around it. Boating in the lake and a pony ride on the lakeside are soul-loving experiences. Also, the major advantage of the lake is that it is at a walking distance to every place in the town.

Important Facts for Traveller to North Sikkim

North Sikkim

  • The best season for traveling to North Sikkim is from Mid-February to Mid-June&from Mid-September to Mid-December.
  • All the North Sikkim tourwill start and end from Gangtok.
  • Gueststraveling to North Sikkim (Lachung&Lachen) require 02 copies of passport size photograph, original photo ID proof along with its photo copy (identity card – Voter ID card / Pass-port / Driving License) for processing the permit. PAN Card / Aadhar Card are not acceptable for issuance of the Permit.
  • All guests are requested to carry minimum luggage when travelling to North Sikkim and keep the balance luggage at the hotel in Gangtok because of bad road conditions of North Sikkim especially during transshipment due to landslides and road blockages.
  • Meal on Day 1 of the tour to North Sikkim would start from dinner at the booked hotel. All other meals would also be available at the booked hotel only. If the guests wants to have any meal on the way, they can do so on direct payment basis.
  • Meals served to the guests during the stay in North Sikkim are simple food cooked by the hotels. Do not expect meals cooked by professional s during your stay in North Sikkim.
  • In case of shortage of power, due to lack of generator facilities, the guests would be provided with candles.
  • No room heating systems are provided in the room in maximum hotels due to shortage of power, instead the hotelier provides hot water bags.Sometime hot water is supplied by buckets by the hotelier in case geyser doesn’t work due to power failure.
  • There are no telephone lines in this region. Although the mobile network is poor still Airtel, Vodafone & BSNL operates better in this area.
  • Difference in cost arising due to mishaps, bandhs/strikes, natural calamities like landslides, road blockage etc. the extra cost would have to be paid on the spot by the guest directly.
  • Once the package is booked & confirmed no refund will be entertained.

Lachung

  • Most of the hotels available in Lachung (a small village) are with basic amenities and limited inventory. Please do not compare the facilities and category of these hotels with any city hotels like in Gangtok, Darjeeling.Even if you have booked for 3 star categories like superior / luxury, the hotel at Lachungwould be simple one. Only Yarlam Resort in Lachung meets the three star category. It is an expensive property compared to others and can be booked with a supplement costs.
  • Due to winter season because of heavy snow, vehicle will be able to drive till Snow point on the way to Yumthang Valley.
  • Excursion to Zero point (Yumesamdong) is optional which the guest can avail after payingan extra cost. Approx. cost of the excursion is Rs. 3,000 per vehicle. This extra payment can be paid directly to driver also if not booked in advance with us.

Lachen

  • InLachen (a small remote village) almost all accommodations are very basic like guest house / home stay evenwhen you have opted for Deluxe /Super Deluxe/ Superior /luxury package. Please brief this to your guest.
  • As per army’s restriction, travellers below 10 years and above 60 years are not allowed to visit Gurudungmar Lake beyond Gaigong Army gate due to low oxygen level in high altitude for safety reason.

Lachung Cancellation Policy

GUESTS ARE ADVISED TO GO THROUGH THE UNDER MENTIONED TERMS AND CONDITION ALONG WITH THE CANCELLATION POLICY IN DETAILS.

PERMITS

The hotels in North Sikkim do not take any responsibility for the issue of permits. For any cancellations or no show, even if it is because of non-receipt ofpermits, full cancellation shall be applicable and there will be no refund.

NATURAL CALAMITIES

Due to widening and surface improvement works, North Sikkim highway is undergoing through the initial teething phase. It is prone to small landslides during rainy season; under such circumstancesif guests are unable to check in due to road blockage midway 50% of the booking amount shall be refundable. During major slides when the highway remain closed for more than a day as a result of which permits are denied for travel, the hotel shall refund 90% of the booking amount to the guest. The rest being administrative cost.
